For the past few months we have been engaged in discussion how best to transfer the written word of JRR Tolkien's THE HOBBIT into a film made by Peter Jackson and company.We started with the first line and went clear to the conclusion.  Now we are starting to tackle the second film   All are encouraged and welcomed to give your ideas. You can limit yourself to what Tolkien wrote or invent things out of whole cloth as you see fit.  We just want to know what would make a good film of the events before and after THE HOBBIT.    Please join in.

The events that we may or may not want to consider happen in this order
2845 Thrain is imprisoned in Dol Guldur
2850 Gandalf enters Dol Guldur, confirms its master is Sauron, and his quest for the Rings of Power including the One Ring and Isuldurs heir, finds Thrain in the dungeon and is given the Key of Erebor.
2851 Gandalf meets with the White Council who reject a direct attack on DG - but Saruman begins his own search for the One Ring
2890 Bilbo is born in the Shire
2931 Aragorn son of Arathorn and Gilraen is born
2933 Arathorn is slain and Elrond adopts him, renames him Estel, and he is raised in Rivendell
2941 Main events of HOBBIT including finding of the One Ring by Frodo, Battle of Five Armies, killing of Smaug, Dain becomes King under the Mountain. The WHite COuncil attacks Dol Guldur and Sauron flees to Mordor
2942 Sauron begins to reestablish himself in Mordor
2949 Gandalf and Balin visit Bilbo in the SHire
2951 Sauron declares himself openly in Mordor and begins rebuilding the Barad-dur. Gollum journeys to Mordor and Sauron retakes DG with three Nazgul. Aragorn goes into the wild at age 20.
2953 WHite Council meets for the final time, Saruman says the Ring is lost in the ocean and he takes Isengard as his own base of operations, Arwen and Aragorn meet for the first time
2956 first meeting of Gandalf and Aragorn
2968 Frodo is born
2980 Arwen and Aragorn plight their troth
2989 Balin enters Moria
2994 dwarf colony is Moria is destroyed

Film2 - our version - will center around the basic struggle between good and evil. Good is seen through the character of Gandalf the Grey and his efforts to rally the Free Peoples of Middle-earth againt evil - the rise of the Dark Lord and Necromancer Sauron.
That theme, that struggle is the connection between all the various dots that are the events taken from the Appendices. "
