Doug Jones - Elven King Thranduil!!!!

TORN is reporting comments from Del Toro beastie actor Doug Jones as follows:

“There’s been lots of speculation. I wouldn’t want to ruin anything. Guillermo creates things with me in mind and he’s got a better image of what I can do than I do,” [...] “However, there might be an elf king, father of Legolas kind of character that I would love.”

=====================================

Have to say I never saw that coming. I figured Jones would be a make-up covered beastie of some type - but this is a major acting role.  I was hoping Christopher Walken would get the part of Thranduil.

angelica, agree, its in part a ironic comment from gdt, but behind almost all ironi lies some earnest or true meaning that wants to come out;) But i guess ironi is used kind of differently in different parts of the world..in uganda if you ironically tell a person that you really want him to hit you, he would get confused, because you are after all his friend ;)

Mym, I didn't like Haldir too. Nor Celeborn, to tell the truth. But you must admit they have a sort of noble look, something making you feel overawed (at least, that's my opinion).
Anyway, they were Lorien Elves. Now we're talking about Mirkwood ones, so our touchstone should be Legolas.
And here I stop and leave every comment to you. :-)

Personally, I don't think that a few of those elves in the previous movies where ll that beautiful. forgive my blanking brain meats, but the one who led the alliances forces to aid at helms deep, not my def of awe inspiring good looks. as well as Mr. Smith himself. i mean, i have seen jones dolled up for a couple of roles and dang he's something to look at. but, it all goes back to the point that he may not even be playing the Good King.

Mithrandir - I absolutely agree. Acting skills are obviously important, but to play an Elf it needs a beautiful actor. Because Elves are beautiful. Period. That's what I actually meant - Doug Jones for sure could be an excellent actor but IMO he doesn't look like an Elf.
My statement was ironic - and I think GDT's statement was ironic, too. I really believe Jones will end to play the Goblin King in F2, and/or Sauron himself in F2.

thats true engelica, buti I feel that the actors who will play elves must have a certain look and thus their appearance must be elflike before possible digital modifications too the skin colour, eye lences and a little make-up..If you dont look likie an elf you dont look like an elf, and it would be kind of pointless to use actors with faces that cant stand on their own, seeing that elves are so "natural" and "clean". A lot of make-up suggests that soemthing more is lurking here, maybe prostetics, a new face more or less for instance..if he is ment for the necromancer part, he would need a lot of make-up, which perhaps means prostetics etc..im just saying that its a slight possiblity that he will not play the elven king.

He needs a lot of make up even to look like an Elf IMO.

but what if jones is actually meant for the part of the necromancer or the orc king...its just as likely thinking of what gdt said, a lot of make up...A LOT doesnt seem to me as elven make-up, but rather transformation of some sort..
