Places in the Heart

Is there a place you love to visit or remember fondly?  Somewhere you went on vacation, or for school or had an adventure?

There are so many here who live and travel to so many amazing places all over the world - here's a chance to share your tales.  Paint a word picture or post a link or website.

"Still round the corner there may wait

A new road or a secret gate,

And though I oft had passed them by,

A day will come at last when I

Shall take the hidden paths that run

West of the Moon, East of the Sun."

(JRRT... of course)

Catia, the University of Toronto looks absolutely beautiful - and very English!! I would certainly encourage my kids to study abroad if they get the chance. Thank you for the clip.

Thank you Catia and Elanor for the wonderful clips!
Catia - the UofT reminds me a little bit of Syracuse University, near where I'm from. Lots of trees, very green.
Elanor - I absolutely loved the background music in both clips.

As for snow - I love winter and snow, always have. It does get a little extreme - I can remember walking to classes when the temp was -40F (-40C), even getting frostbite one time. Most of the time though, everyone is so used to it, it's taken in stride.

There is a very good possibility I'll be moving back to upstate NY (I'm not sure when). It's so much closer to Europe than California, so keep that in mind if you travel to the US someday :-)

Elanor, I stayed in Toronto for about a year from August 2003 until May 2004 for my "year abroad" that I spent studying at the University of Toronto. I had a great time and met great people there.
I've been looking for a nice video clip of the UofT for about 20 mins. now, but I couldn't really find a great clip, so here is just an "ok" clip for you to get an impression. Maybe one day, one of your children might want to go, too...
It is a very great university!

Kac & Elanor, very nice clips!

Kac, I can image you miss some winter weather right now where it's so awfully hot in California. But I remember from my winter in Toronto that with those feet of snow there came temperatures around -20°C (-4°F), plus the snow would press on the rooves and make some collapse or cause power lines to rip under the snow and the ice... it's too much... Why not have a nice rainy Hamburg summer? ;-)
(Or are you thinking about moving back to the East Coast? Personally, I wouldn't mind living upstate New York, where you have the beautiful landscape on the one hand and then this amazing metropolis on the other hand, both within reach.)

Hey, everyone, I just found this clip on Youtube of Exeter & the cathedral that I was singing in week before last. Unfortunately the clip doesn't show the actual Quire but it's good nonetheless.

I also found this clip of Chichester Cathedral, where my youngest son will be singing from September - can't wait to see and hear him!

The temperature here has been over 108 all week, so for a little relief, I went back in time to Oswego, NY where I went to college. January 2007 - 11 ft. of snow in one week. I remember quite a few weeks like this when I lived there.

The Isle of Wight is one of my favourite places - lots of family holidays here when I was young and now I have taken my own children too. This clip is one of three by Spongesurfer. Fantastic photography and great choice of music ;-) Enjoy!

Oh, this is soooo nice!!!!!
Thank you again, Kac.

Well, this clip is from a German news show from 2003 just before the "Return of the King/ Die Rückkehr des Königs" was released. They are basically saying that the beautiful landscape of New Zealand was actually the main protagonist in the whole trilogy.

Are you sure, you don't understand any German? For some reason you always manage to dig up the nicest clips that fit so well (even to my personal situation). Maybe you are not a "Rangerette" but a little Elvish...
