The new picture is only temporary, Elanor. Several people were asking what I did in the SCA, and the picture shows it so much better than any explanation could. I'm definately not making bridesmaid's gowns. Deirdre has decided that her bridesmaids can choose their own dresses, so long as they are blue and ankle length. That way each girl gets a shade and style she is likely to wear again and nobody gets upset about how much they have to spend. Not sure what they're going to do for hair decoratio...... more

Whew! Mom's gone back home, the house is quiet, and I'm dealing with let-down. Deirdre found her dress in a salon, which is a bit of a disappointment to me since I was planning to make it for her. Then when Mom informed us she and Da were buying the dress what could I say? It's beautiful, but still I'm a bit disappointed. Oh well, I still get to make the veil. That's one thing I'm hanging on to, and since our old veil has finally gone beyond use nobody can say anything about it. Despite my compl...... more

Right enough. With my mom in the house I just don't have time or permission for chat rooms. A quick question, though. While I'm working on the Gorlim story, am I just concentrating on that or am I covering the Union of Maedhros also? That seems to coincide with Barahir's story in it's beginning, although the Union keeps going after Barahir and co. are done with.... more

OK, I'm officially crazy. My mother's arriving in two days, and I've got so much left to do I couldn't get it all done with House Elf help. I'm 40+ years old, have a family and a career, so why can't I let my mother see my house in its normal state? I'm supposed to enjoy these visits; instead I'm exhausted and stressed.... more

At this point, I'm not even sure The Hobbit is going to be made in the next decade. Maybe it will be like the Star Wars movies, when they continue the story 25 years down the road with entirely new cast and crew.... more

I love it when you research something, Elanor. You seem to find the interesting stuff that I never can. Reading what you've posted about Aredhel and Eol, I'm now wondering if the relationship might not have been a bit of rebellion on Aredhel's part. She had to know her dear brother would not approve of Eol. At times it seems the fact that a certain boy would irritate the brother(s) makes said boy all the more attractive. Not that I'd know from experience (twiddles thumbs). Now you make me w...... more

While we're all working so hard on serious scenes I just have to lighten things up a bit. I've a Quenya phrase that could work well int he right circumstances, and in any event is good for a laugh. "Mitta lambalya antossë orcova" Rough tanslation: Go French-kiss an Orc!... more

I had hoped this could be quickly told and we'd get Beren and Luthien together right off, but this story seems to have a life of it's own. I feel like I have to establish Eilinel's presence, show Barahir's striking Morgoth seriously, show Morgoth's reaction and Morgoth sending Sauron to get Barahir, show how Sauron finds Eilinel, show what happens when the Orcs come to take Eilinel, show Gorlim finding the ruined cabin, Gorlim's capture, torture, and betrayl, and meanwhile show what's going on with Bara...... more

Part 3: (and here's where I'm needing suggestions) [Fade in on Hills of Dorthonion. Men build a small cabin in a closed valley. A stream runs nearby, and the open field is full of wildflowers although the trees are scorched. New leaves show on branches indicating that the land is coming back. Eilinel gathers herbs and binds them to dry as the cabin is raised.] Aragorn: (voiceover) So Barahir and his men built a hut for Eilinel in a secure valley, where she would be safe from roving bands of Or...... more

Part 2: [Camera shift to Gorlim, who walks into trees, clearly unhappy. Camera follows Gorlim. Gorlim stops, leans against a tree. We hear footsteps, camera shift right to Eilinel, emerges from brush and approaches. She lays a hand on Gorlim’s shoulder, Gorlim jumps. Gorlim blinks, clearly not believing she is standing there.] Gorlim: What? Why are you still here? Eilinel: Did you think I would leave so quickly? Without an argument? (straightens) I am a soldier’s wife. I will not leave ...... more

So here is the beginning of the Gorlim tragedy. I picked up the scene at the Oath that Elanor wrote so beautifully and took things from there. I tried to work out how to tell this quickly, and can use any suggestions because I wanted to cover the whole thing in three pages and haven't even gotten half way through. For approval (and improvement): [Fade back on camp. Men gather in small groups, looking bedraggled. Beren sits on tree stump, horse grazes nearby. Finrod and Elves are alert, watching the...... more

I can easily see Eol drugging Aredhel, and I think it would not stop with the initial encounter. Aredhel seems to me like a woman who is not about to be bound by convention, rules, or anything else if she really doesn't want to do something. After all, her stubbornness about visiting old friends caused the problem in the first place. I think Eol might keep her drugged for years. Of course, he could also behave like a charming heartbreaker and actually win her cooperation for a while. Either is beli...... more

Now, I'm not suggesting that we actually do this but it's too bad we couldn't put Maeglin and Celebrimbor in a confrontation at some point. That would be explosive. The undesired sons, Cage Match in the Great Hall! I will have a series of short scenes that should take Gorlim's story up to the massacre posted sometime Monday. See you then. I will happily nominate either Elanor or STW to handle the Gondolin episode. I'm not much into long exposition, and this sounds like it will need a lot of story-telling and not nearly as much story-showing. I will, however, offer the suggestion that we leave Maeglin entirely out of our story. We don't really need him, except to expose Gondolin's location. That can be done other ways without actually breaking canon. Maeglin's story deserves it's own season or two to really do it justice. Just my o...... more

STW, I for one am glad you left the skunks out of the scene. What happened to the horse is bad enough. Having a pack of small skunks near all those Orcs would count as cruelty to animals, not to mention the need to fit every skunk with a gas mask. Then there would be the therapy they would need afterwards, since Orcs smell so bad the skunks would wind up with a complex. Nothing wrong with a few wisecacks, on the other hand. I was waiting for Fingolfin to shout "Get out here and fight me, you (inse...... more

Elanor: So cute, and a perfect way to set up what is to come. I love the picture of the courage, anguish, and maddness of the battle being explained with a child's toys. That is so much the way school is, in that it's easy to convey facts and impossible to project truth if the student is not able to tune into what is going on. I love the way you lead the audience into STW's tragedy, and I'm half dreading the Eldarion is going to ask about the horse. I know that fate would make a kid cry, and it makes...... more
