Good evening, Middle Earth- Galdor, don't worry, you couldn't know as I hadn't told here, and it's really hard to upset me anyways ;) Elanor, unfortunately there seems to be no hope for successful treatment, just waiting for great results in research. As for now, I'm taking more and more drugs to keep it under control but I feel it failing.... more

Good afternoon, Middle Earth- Luthien, happy birthday! Sounds like you got some pretty nice presents here. Galdor, seems I didn't put that very clearly, this time I was talking about Naela, my horse, being pregnant. I myself can't ever have children due to my illness. Ethelwynn, congratulations on getting this placement, I hope you are enjoying it even though the school sounds like quite a challenge! I haven't been able to post here for quite a while, I was in hospital again due to my cursed illness, it...... more

Good mornin, Middle Earth! Galdor, I hope you enjoy the rafting trip, it definitely sounds great. And yes, PJ looks much healthier now, though less hobbit-ish ;) I haven't posted anything on here in ages, basically there hasn't been anything really exciting happening and I'm spending most of my time outside at the stables. Well, some good news: Seems that Naela really is pregnant this time :)... more

Good evening, Middle Earth- Elanor, thank you! I would be competing in the Bavarian Championships for Icelandic horses and they are mainly about showing the 5 different gaits in an oval track. For example the gait on the photo is Tölt, which most other breeds of horses don't even do. Last Friday I got the shock of my lifetime, when riding I nearly got struck by a lighning, that was somewhat scary. Luckily, Naela didn't lose it, she just sped up and after I regained my composure, I could even slow her dow...... more

Good afternoon, Middle Earth- Galdor, hello back :D Just popping in very quickly to say everything is great, our farm owners' daughter has qualified for the WC in August, so everybody will be gone then and I'll be in charge of some stuff back here, I'm riding a lot now and spending most time outside (got a wonderful tan, except for the hands that remain white from the riding gloves....) and might be competing in the Bavarian Championships in September with Naela! :)... more

Good morning, Middle Earth- Ethelwynn, I'm glad you enjoyed the reception. And don't worry about a mixed marriage, over here we've got plenty, even my uncle, himself being Catholic, is married to a Protestant and they have been happy for about 28 years now, one of their daughters is Catholic and the other one is Protestant, but never have any problems arisen from that fact. I myself wouldn't be allowed to marry in church anyways because I have left it and over here, they ban apostates from marrying in ch...... more

Good day, Middle Earth- Haldir, good to hear from you, and congratulations on passing your exams! Ethelwynn, the horse actually reared and hit my arm with its front leg, pushing me with my head against a metal fence. Elanor, this time it was the right arm ;) It is still rather multi-coloured but I think I can see improvement. I've still got headaches from my concussion but spent the weekend at the farm because we had a very good trainer there and I took some lessons, it went better than I had anticipate...... more

Good morning, Middle Earth- Ethelwynn, this wedding sounds amazing! I am with Elanor there, please let us see some photos after the event! I'm sorry for not posting for so long, I'm back to Bavaria now and pretty much the first thing I did was have a horse hit me so badly I ended up in hospital, now I'm at home on the sofa and waiting for my injuries to heal enough for me to enjoy the rest of my summer holiday and go riding very often. I'm terribly bored and in pain, my right arm is of no use yet, and a...... more

Me Tory?! God forbid! ;) I'll be playing at a venue in central Nottingham with a guy accompanying me on an accoustic guitar and am really looking forward to it, it only seems to be much bigger than I had originally expected. We'll be doing covers of ballads or folk songs, I'm not quite sure yet what exactly, I've made a list of my ideas and now wait for the guitarist's reply. If things work out fine, that might well turn into a longer lasting engagement :) St James' Park? Wow, that's amazing, congratula...... more

Good morning, Middle Earth- Galdor, I only just returned from a trip to London, some relaxation after the end of my exams. StW, congratulations on the new grandson! Elanor, thanks for telling the news ;) I've got some good news, the shopping was very successful and I ended up having blue hair as well, and on Monday I'll be doing a gig in the city centre :)... more

Elanor, congratulations to your son, that is really good news! Galdor, well the speed depends entirely on the horse ;) I've got my last exam tomorrow, can't wait being done with it, my brain is exhausted. I just want to lie down in the grass in the sunshine and sleep or doze away. Naela was at a stallion today but he had a bad injury last year and it turns out that he is not capable of ..erm...making little horses any more, so tomorrow she's moving onto a huge meadow with another stallion, and she can...... more

Elanor, I didn't know it was popular for weddings but that sure fits very well, what a romantic imagery :) At the moment I'm revising Old Norse, especially the following elegy, it's called "Sonatorrek" (Lament of my sons) and by Egil Skallagrímsson, the most famous Viking poet. 1. 'Much doth it task me My tongue to move, Through my throat to utter The breath of song. Poesy, prize of Odin, Promise now I may not, A draught drawn not lightly From deep thought's dwelling. 2. Good evening, Middle Earth- what's so bad about the Pony Express? I'd love to ride for them :D I'm glad the profiles are back to normal, it really shocked me. Today I got my exam in Roman Archaeology done and I am so, so, so glad I went to Pompei last summer and to Hadrian's Wall this year as I could draw so many examples from it. I hope it went well. I'm in a somewhat nostalgic phase today, keep listening to old Grunge/Indie records, can't help loving that music even though my young course mates keep ...... more

At the moment, I particularly like this one by W. B. Yeats: He Wishes for the Cloths of Heaven Had I the heavens' embroidered cloths, Enwrought with golden and silver light, The blue and the dim and the dark cloths Of night and light and the half-light, I would spread the cloths under your feet: But I, being poor, have only my dreams; I have spread my dreams under your feet; Tread softly because you tread on my dreams.... more

Oh, yes I've mixed that up, sorry! I thought there was only the Barbican in London *embarrassed* On the one hand, sunshine on the weekend is really enjoyable, the problem about it is only that I've got a huge Old English exam on Tuesday and sunshine outside makes it even harder to stay inside and revise like mad ;) Nevertheless, I wish you the best time and great fun!... more

Good morning, Middle Earth- Galdor, sounds like a perfect day at Indy, except for the drunk people of course ;) Elanor, I fear your locations are a bit too far away for me to attend a gig. But if you ever tour the Midlands, don't forget to tell me, or if your son's choir comes anywhere near here! Playing in the Barbican sounds fantastic. That's also where Guildhall students play, so you might well tread a stage that a certain actor one certain Italian member here likes very much has treaded before you ;)...... more

Good afternoon, Middle Earth! I hope the English Hobbits are all enjoying a nice bank holiday even though the weather is not too promising any more ;) Haldir, I'm glad you enjoyed your concert, I always love performing on stage, it feels amazing. I'm revising again for exams, still not feeling very fine but I am trying to convince myself that it's getting better. ...... more

Good afternoon, Middle Earth! Ethelwynn, congratulations on those good marks! You have every right to be very proud of yourself. The image of the Battle of Amon Hen in underwear still makes me giggle and I fear I'll never be able to watch it without bursting out laughing any more ;) Of course it's not quite comparable to an ambush but in the first term we got frequent fire alarms at night and there were quite a few guys in boxershorts that looked rather awkward on the courtyard in the middle of the night...... more

I'm ever so jealous. But as long as they don't find Viking remains in NZ I fear I can't justify to travel there... Good afternoon, Middle Earth- kac, it#s great to have you back, and good to hear you are enjoying your job. Unfortunately, I have only sad news again. Good afternoon, Middle Earth- stw, great to have you back! I hope the problems are sorted once and for all. Elanor, good to hear that you enjoyed your time at Rochester. I'm ever so busy at uni with the upcoming exams and lots of archery practice now that I am able to shoot again. Here's one I encountered when doing research for an actual Ango-Saxon poem, it is by JRR Tolkien based on lines 95 onwards of "The Wanderer" and might seem slightly familiar to you as it is also the base for the well-known "Lament of the Rohirrim" and yet, this is the older and original version that Tolkien allegedly wrote quite early on in his life and I indeed do prefer it to the version from Lord of the Rings: Lay of the Passing Ages What has become of the Firstborn? What has become of the King? What...... more

Good morning, Middle Earth- I hope those of you who live in England are having a nice Bank Holiday. I have concluded that I don't like bank holidays, I woke up early but as it is a public holiday we could not get food in hall until 11, so I decided to read a bit and then go swimming to fight my starving stomach. But the swimming pool was closed, so I had to go running instead, got absolutely soaked and when I was back, it still wasn't time for brunch. Now I've finally got my brunch, and what did they off...... more

Naela! I was worried about you and your horses. I hope all is OK after the major quake. I'm not sure where you are located in China but even in that enormous country you must have felt it. And, on a very minor point my horses are "semi-retired" because they are no longer jumping (old knees) and go barefoot. They go out trail riding and do a wee bit of arena work in my outdoor arena. They're sweethearts!

Whoa China!!! I truly love my Island paradise. I have 2 semi-retired horses a Saddlebred and a Quarterhorse(western cutter). They are my "mascots". I run Madrona Meadows Bed and Barn. Folks can come to the Island and bring their horses. I really think it's a Horse Retreat first and Human Retreat second! If you want to see more pictures I have a website slideshow and you can even see satellite photos on a Google Map! www.madronameadowsbedandbarn.com
